Wantagh Girls Lacrosse Set for Semifinal Showdown with Manhasset

Lady Warriors easily win first two playoff games to set up rematch with Indians.

The has rolled through its first two playoff opponents but a far stiffer test is starring the Lady Warriors in the face for the next round. 

Third-seeded Wantagh (12-5) outscored Bethage in the first round and South Side in the Nassau County Class B quarterfinals by a combined score of 36-5. Next up for Wantagh in the semifinals is second-seeded Manhasset (13-2), who the Warriors edged 12-11 in their regular season meeting on April 4. The Indians however in the semifinals, 11-7. 

“They are working together as a team and are having success with executing on the defense and offense end,” said Wantagh girls lacrosse head coach Bobbi Colavita. “Having been in the same situation as last year, we recognize the challenges that lie ahead.”

Wantagh has been led offensively in the playoffs largely by and junior attacker Colleen Lovett, who registered 12 points on five goals and seven assists against South Side this past Thursday and Northwestern-bound senior midfielder Kaleigh Craig, who tallied five goals and three assists in the first round win against Bethpage on May 15. Catie Ingrilli and Allie McClain also stepped up big for Wantagh in the quarterfinal win with four goals and three goals, respectively. 

The Wantagh-Manhasset Class B semifinal game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Adelphi University in Garden City. If Wantagh wins against Manhasset, the Lady Warriors would advance to the county championship game on May 30 against the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Garden City and Long Beach.
