Wantagh Girls Soccer Team Falls at Division

Lady Warriors face constant Blue Dragons offensive pressure in 2-0 loss.

Wantagh girls soccer goalie Alexandra Rousseau was kept plenty busy in Wednesday afternoon's game at Division High School, and while the senior netminder did her best to keep the Lady Warriors within striking distance, the Blue Dragons offensive attack proved to strong in the end. Division defeated Wantagh 2-0 and the final score would have been even larger had not been for the efforts of Rousseau, who recorded nine saves in the midst of constant Blue Dragon pressure.

"She really had some dynamite saves," said Wantagh girls soccer co-head coach James Polo of the play of Rousseau, who also recorded 18 stops in a season-opening 1-0 win of New Hyde Park on Sept. 20. "She really did a great job in there and kept us in the game."

Division's two goals were tallied by Susan Ballantyne, whose second came off a cross from her older sister Julie with just under 17 minutes left in the second half. Division is off to a 6-0 start and Coach Polo expects the Blue Dragons to be a major contender in a challenging Conference IV.

"[Division] could definitely be a team to beat," said Polo. "They definitely have some of the pieces that you need to be a county contender."

Wantagh will have a rematch with Division at home on Oct. 20 starting at 4 p.m. Wantagh is next in action Friday at Roslyn with kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
