Wantagh Gymnast is Tops in County

Brianna Quinn captures the Nassau County all-around individual gymnastics title Monday night.

Wantagh gymnast Brianna Quinn is closing her high school gymnastics career on a high note.

The Wantagh High School senior captured the Nassau County all-around individual gymnastics title Monday night at Hicksville High School with a meet-high 36.725 score. She now advances to the state meet on March 2 at Smithtown East High School.

Quinn's first place performance in the counties Monday comes after missing the state qualifier the last three years due to injury. She last appeared in the county and state individual championships as an eighth grader.

Quinn, who will continue her gymnastics career on the collegiate level at the University of Bridgeport next year, helped lead Wantagh to a 9-1 team record during the 2012/13 season. The Lady Warriors will next be competing in the Nassau County team gymnastics championships on Saturday at Plainview Old Bethpage Middle School starting at 11 a.m.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
