Wantagh HS Graduate Wins CAA Wrestling Title for Hofstra

graduate Steve Bonanno captured an individual Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) wrestling title for Hofstra University this past Saturday. 

Bonanno, a 2008 Wantagh graduate, clinched his first conference title with a 9-0 victory against George Mason's Vince Rodriguez at 125 pounds. The red-shirt junior was one of six Hofstra wrestlers to win individual titles at the CAA Wrestling Championships held at the Binghamton University Events Center. Hofstra won its 10th CAA team title in 11 years, edging Binghampton by two points, 80.5 to 78.5.

Bonanno entered the CAA Championships with a 25-6 record and ranked 14th in the nation for the 125 pound weight class. He will next compete in the 2012 NCAA Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis from March 15-17.

Bonanno had a standout career at Wantagh High School capturing a New York State Championship his senior season in 2008. He was also an Honorable mention All-American who was ranked 21st in the nation during his senior campaign for the Warriors.
