Wantagh Native Named Georgetown Women's Lacrosse Captain

Erin Lovett selected as team leader of Hoyas for second straight year.

Wantagh native Erin Lovett was recently named a captain of the Georgetown women's lacrosse team for the second straight year.

Lovett, a 2008 graduate of Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, enters her final year playing for Hoyas coming off a 2012 season in which she scored 14 goals and registered a team-best 10 assists. The graduate student is entering her fifth year of collegiate lacrosse after an injury sidelined her for the 2011 season. In her career, Lovett has played in 55 games with 12 starts and scored 40 total goals.

Also named captains by Georgetown head coach Ricky Fried were Kelsi Bozel, Ashley Hunter and MJ Coyle.

"I'm excited about our four captains this season," Fried said. "They were elected by their teammates and will effectively lead the team on and off the field."

Prior to her career at Georgetown, Lovett earned Under Armour All-America honors at Kellenberg and was named one of the top 25 players by Inside Lacrosse Magazine in 2008. The Wantagh native also earned the Catholic High School Player of the Year award her junior season in 2007.

Georgetown was ranked 13th in the nation by Inside Lacrosse. The Hoyas open their 2013 season on Feb. 16 at Delaware.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
