Wantagh's Von Bargen Earns College Lacrosse Honors

Hofstra freshman midfielder named Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the period ending March 17.

Former Wantagh High School standout lacrosse player Brian von Bargen was rewarded Monday for the solid start to his collegiate career at nearby Hofstra.

Von Bargen earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honors for the period ending March 17 after scoring two goals and tallying one assist in Hofstra’s 10-5 win at Delaware this past Saturday. The freshman midfielder has scored four goals in his first seven games with Hofstra, which entered the week ranked seventh in the country before a 7-6 setback at St. John’s Tuesday. The Wantagh product also scored a key goal in Hofstra's 8-7 upset win at then second-ranked Notre Dame on March 9.

Von Bargen earned All-County accolades his senior season at Wantagh while leading the Warriors to a Nassau County Class A finals appearance. He was also an All-County football selection as a senior and earned a spot as a defensive back in the 2012 United Healthcare Empire Challenge played at Hofstra.
