Wantagh Youngster Shines in Regional Gymnastics Competition

Seventh grader Julie Giardina places third in her age group at Regional 6 individual gymnastics championships.

A 12-year old from Wantagh is shining amongst the top gymnasts in the northeast.

Julie Giardina, a seventh grader at , qualified for the Regional 6 gymnastics championships held in Waterville, Maine from April 29-30. The meet included the top gymnasts from New York, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont. Giardina competed in the All-Star division and came home as the regional champion finishing first on the uneven bars with score of 9.3 and on floor Exercise with a 9.375.

Giardina, who qualified for the Regional 6 championships from her performance in the New York State Gymnastics Championships, finished third overall in her age group. Her other scores were 9.025 on vault and 8.85 on the balance beam. She trains five days a week at Mid-Island Gymnastics in Hicksville.
