Wantagh Youth Football Team Captures Super Bowl

Wantagh Warriors wins Nassau Suffolk Football League (NSFL) Tier 1 title for second straight year.

The Wantagh Football Club Senior Team has captured a Super Bowl title for the second straight year.

The Wantagh Warriors, a team comprised of 12 and 13-year olds, won the Nassau Suffolk Football League (NSFL) Tier 1 Super Bowl title on Nov. 27 with a 27-14 win against the Bethpage Eagles at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay Harbor.

Following an 8-1 regular season, the Warriors defeated Malverne in the first round of the NSFL tier 1 playoffs, 16-14. In the second round, the Warriors atoned for their only regular season defeat with a 12-6 double overtime win at Brentwood to earn a spot in the Super Bowl against Bethpage.

After a back and forth battle, the score at halftime of the Super Bowl was tied 14-14. The Warriors then made the necessary halftime adjustments and outscored Bethpage 13-0 in the second half to become 2011 champions.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
