Photos: Dave Matthews Rocks in the Rain at Jones Beach

Famed singer/songwriter delights Wantagh crowd, despite rough weather.

The Dave Matthews Band brought their act to Wantagh Tuesday evening for the first of back-to-back performances at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.

The concert took place in the midst of a rain storm that struck Long Island. Dave Matthews also performed at Jones Beach Wednesday evening.

We got soaked during the concert but it was still good. Once the rain came down sideways and the wind was blowing just before the show ended we left to find shelter and listened to the end from under cover. Next time, I'm bringing one of those big yellow slickers.

Went last night. A bunch of drunks and lots of weed.

Jeff Coffin, the saxophonist touring with the band, held a master class at Schreiber High School in Port Washington last year. He was very accessible, and the students loved working with him.

The real bear: then you got what you went for. The Governor says a little pot is no problem. Until he saysa lot of pot is no problem.

Stop the pressess !! Weed and drunk kids at a rock concert !!! Where the hell have you been the last 40 years or so ? Good show last night. Tight band. Didn't know most of the tunes but everthing was well played. Rather be around a little weed and people having a good time than some other shows I've been to where everyone is on their I phone all night or talking over the music.

I was there both nights. Tuesday was a soaker but the band still had everyone up and dancing. Wednesday was much better though and the guys seemed to be having more fun too. Who doesnt love a Beastie boys tribute?

I'd rather listen to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdZ9weP5i68) over Dave Matthews. Can't stand him.

Their live shows are a snoozer, they really are not good at improv jamming at all. With that said, I am a fan and listen to their music, I just don't find them very good live.

Wow Jim really? Most poeple say the opposite. I am not into them as much as I used to be. I've seen more Dave shows than I can count and really their live shows are what they are all about....their studio albums are brutal. I can't listen to them. But they consistently take a 4 minute studio song and make it a jam session with some awesome musicians at their live shows. IMO, hands down, Dave shows are the best that I've ever been too. Usually attended by great people too, which always made for a great time. Just my 2 cents
have a listen to this one (jump to the 11 minute mark) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U9i7ve8ONw

Andrew great pictures man. Were you in the photo pit? It can be pretty treacherous in their sometimes at these big shows!
Brendan June 14, 2012 at 04:22 pm
Jones Beach has reserved seating all the way to the front of the stage. There is no pit.

We went on Tuesday, with our ponchos on......LOved the show, great song choices, great music!!!
Tom Gillen June 14, 2012 at 05:45 pm
ah ok. I remember being at Randall's Island years back and wishing I had worn elbow pads

I've been to about half a dozen DMB shows. I don't think they are a good "jam band". They usually play the same notes and rhythm over and over again. Their songs really don't lend themselves to much exploration. But, I enjoy their music, own all their studio albums and some live ones (used to have a bunch of live tapes as well), listen to it often and I'm a fan. I just don't think they are good live.

tom of Stop the pressess !! I hear everything sounds good when you are stoned.
Tom Gillen June 15, 2012 at 12:31 pm
Hey that's fair. I always loved the environment at their shows.....lots of good people just having a great time. Some of the best tailgating I've ever seen!
Vincent June 15, 2012 at 12:47 pm
Tom Gillen: after what Brendan wrote are you sure you were there? Or did you get a wiff of the the weed as The real bear said the weed was all over the place? Maybe you were just pliain drunk.
Vincent June 15, 2012 at 12:52 pm
Tom Glidden: "Andrew great pictures man". Wow!! Right out of the fifties. LOL
Tom Gillen June 15, 2012 at 01:01 pm

Posting bitterness for the sake of posting bitterness.
They have a name for that. I believe it's called "TROLL"...
Tom Gillen June 15, 2012 at 01:13 pm
Unfortunately I wasn't there. But I can tell by the author's photos that he had a good vantage point - they came out great! Many of the shows I have covered have had a photo pit where us photo geeks with our passes are corralled....it's usually right in front of the stage and the crowd barrier is right behind you....these pits get nuts at some of the festivals and big acts like DMB.
