Long Island Comic Con Saturday at Cradle of Aviation

Proceeds from an auction of original illustrations and signed comics to benefit the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund.

Eternal Con 2013 comes to the Cradle of Aviation Museum Saturday, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announced Thursday.

The event will include a toy expo, a military vehicle show, a costume contest, entrance to the aviation museum and more between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Proceeds from an auction of original illustrations and signed comics will benefit the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund, which collects private donations and disperses them to Nassau residents who need them most, Mangano said. The Fund will also receive proceeds from the sale of a limited edition, hand-drawn Superman print, put out in advance of the new movie, "Man of Steel," due in theaters this week.

“I invite all residents to visit Eternal Con 2013 this weekend,” Mangano said. “The proceeds of auction items will benefit Hurricane Sandy victims. Eternal Con 2013 is another creative way to partner with the private sector to raise money for Hurricane Sandy victims.”

Two short films featured on the Cradle of Aviation’s IMAX screen beginning at 4 p.m. include “Some Trouble of a serious nature” by Billy Tucci and “G.I. Joe Operation Red Retrieval” by Mark Cheng. These films will be shown for free but those interested must sign in at the front desk to reserve space.

Also on tap will be a display of actual screen-used costumes and props from the 1960s and 1970s "Planet of the Apes" films. Hourly raffles, special guests, a vendor room and collectibles will also be featured.

Former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter; Sean Chen ("Iron Man," "Wolverine," "X-men"); Larry Hama, editor, writer, inker, colorist, designer, illustrator, actor and musician; Arthur Suydam, award-winning creator and Marvel artist; Billy Tucci, illustrator, writer and filmmaker; Nelson Decastro ("Venom," "Superman") and illustrator John Cebollero are all expected to be there, along with former WWE diva Ashley Massaro, Taimak from “The Last Dragon,” former WWE and ECW superstar Tommy Dreamer and the Long Island paranormal investigators.

Admission to the Cradle, which includes Eternal Con, is $10 per person if purchased online before the event. At the door, ticket prices are $14 for adults and $12 for children (2-12), seniors, volunteer firefighters and military personnel.  Sponsorships are available.
