National Grid Adds New Feature to Jones Beach Theater

Natural gas company unveils "Grid Zone" at Wantagh music venue that features charging stations for guests.

Music fans who attend concerts this summer at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh will notice a new feature from National Grid.

The natural gas company has unveiled its “Grid Zone” for the 2013 summer concert series at the famed Long Island amphitheater as a place where guests can seek shelter from inclement weather while providing free charging stations for mobile devices. This addition to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater comes in the wake of the venue receiving a $20 million reconstruction after more than three million gallons of seawater were pumped out from flooding caused by Hurricane Sandy last fall.

“National Grid is committed to helping Long Island rebuild after Sandy’s devastation,” said National Grid New York President Ken Daly. “The Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is a place that many National Grid customers and employees have enjoyed for decades, and we wanted to be a part of contributing a space to this historic landmark for future generations to come and enjoy.”

The Grid Zone at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is located under the facility’s grandstand and is accessible from the concourse level. The unique attraction is open to all guests and features comfortable lounge seating, large flat screen televisions, free phone charging stations, energy efficiency information, interior design inspired by Jones Beach and photos highlighting nostalgic Long Island landmarks. National Grid recently unveiled a similar Grid Zone attraction at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“This is a great opportunity to connect our brand to the local concert-going public,” said National Grid Chief Customer Officer Jim Madej. “They are our customers, employees, business owners and community partners, and now they have an opportunity to relax with family and friends in the Grid Zone, charge up their mobile devices and learn a bit about our company’s Long Island heritage.”
