Annual Seaford Wellness Council Preserve Cleanup Slated for Saturday

Community cleanup of Tackapausha Preserve scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The ninth annual Seaford Wellness Council community cleanup of Tackapausha Preserve is slated for this Saturday morning.

The organization’s cleanup of the preserve, which is located along the Seaford- Massapequa border is being held in conjunction with the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day 2013 celebration being conducted across the country Saturday. This year's cleanup will focus on the middle section of the preserve that extends from Long Island Rail Road tracks off Sunrise Highway toward Clark Street.

“This is a worthwhile effort to help make Seaford a better community while enjoying the absolute beauty of the preserve,” said Peter Ruffner, secretary for the Seaford Wellness Council and event chair.

Community organizations who have participated in past cleanups have included the Seaford Chamber of Commerce, Seaford Lions Club and Seaford High School’s Key Club. Invited to join the effort this year is the newly formed “Friends of Tackapausha.”

“In advance, we thank all the organizations and individuals in Seaford for their participation in this remarkable event,” said Seaford Wellness Council President Ken Nersesian. “This is Seaford Pride at its best!”

Saturday’s cleanup will start at 9 a.m. with volunteers gathering at the Riverside Avenue/Clark Street entrance for assignment and instructions. Further information regarding the cleanup is available on the Seaford Wellness Council’s website.
