Fundraiser Planned at Mulcahy's for Little Girl Battling Rare Illness

Saturday benefit at Wantagh venue will aid Kyla Leonard as she battles Angelman Syndrome.

A fundraiser to assist a 1-year old girl battling a rare neurological condition is planned for this Saturday at in Wantagh. 

The benefit called "Kyla's Kause" is for 1-year old Kyla Leonard, who was recently diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a disease that causes severe impairments with speech, movement, and cognition. Proceeds from Saturday's event, scheduled from 3-7 p.m., will go directly toward Kyla to help cover her ongoing and lifelong costs associated with battling the illness. 

One of the organizers of Saturday's fundraiser is Wantagh resident Dave Udell, who is good friends with Kyla's parents, Danielle Margarita-Leonard and Aaron Leonard of Islip Terrace. Uddell said there will be plenty of raffles and auctions during the fundraiser with a wide range of gifts including autographed sports memorabilia, tickets to Yankees, Mets, Nets, Knicks, Rangers and Islander games as well as hotel accommodations to the Woodloch Pines Family Resort in the Pocono Mountains.

The benefit will also feature a music performance by The Mystic
