Girl Scouts Elect Two Local Women to County Board

Seaford resident JoAnne Bonke and Grace Totten of Wantagh to serve on Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors.

Two local women were elected last month to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. Board of Directors at the organization’s annual meeting.

Seaford resident JoAnne Bonke, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. as a Member-at-Large t the group’s 47th annual meeting held on May 21 at The DeMatteis Center. At the same meeting, Grace Totten of Wantagh, who has served with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County in many operational and governance roles in the past 25 years, was re-elected to the group’s Board of Directors.

Bonke, an active volunteer and mentor for the Girl Scouts, is a senior operations project manager at Bank of America. She previously worked at JPMorgan Chase in the Home Finance division and managed a customer escalation unit that focused on building, restoring and improving service and customer relationships. Prior to joining JPMorgan Chase, Bonke resided in Frankfurt, Germany and worked for American Express Military Bank.

“JoAnne will be a great addition to our Board of Directors,” said Diane M. McFarlane, president of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors. “With JoAnne now serving on our board, we are confident that she will bring strong leadership and help us to continue our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.”

Totten, who has served as Delegate Chair in the Seaford/Wantagh Association for the Girls Scouts of Nassau County, has been a member of Gray Wig, the Hofstra University Alumni Repertory Company since its inception in 1974, and is a member of their Board of Directors. She is a substitute teacher, an actress and volunteers at her church.

“Grace has and will continue to be a great addition to our Board of Directors,” McFarlane said. “We believe this is an appropriate recognition for the work that she has done in the past. With Grace serving on our Board, we are confident that she will bring strong leadership and help us to continue our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.”
