Union Donates Thousands of Toys to Wantagh Children’s Charity

Local 338 collected over 30,000 toys for John Theissen Children's Foundation over last 14 years.

Each year members of RWDSU/UFCW Local 338 collect and donate thousands of new toys for the  in Wantagh, a non-profit organization that supports sick and needy children on Long Island.

Over the past 14 years, Local 338 has collected more than 30,000 toys for the Wantagh-based foundation as part of its annual holiday toy drive. The sick and needy children are able to pick a toy from the donations to make their holidays special.

“Working with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation is one of the highlights every year for our union,” said John Durso, president of Mineola-based Local 338. “Every child needs something to smile about during the holiday season and we believe that by helping needy children we can make lives easier for struggling families.”

Local 338 represents more than 18,000 workers in supermarkets, grocery stores, specialty food stores, retail drug stores, pharmacists, wholesale dairies, drivers, maintenance and healthcare across the New York region.
