Mulcahy's to Host 4th Annual Rockin' for Autism

Feb. 20 fundraiser to benefit the Development Disabilities Institute.

The Development Disabilities Institute (DDI) will be bringin’ down the house with their fourth annual Rockin’ for Autism event this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at in Wantagh.

"Rockin' for Autism is all about coming together as a community and helping those who cannot help themselves," said Jim Cronin, who is co-chairing Sunday's fundraising event and is a member of the DDI Foundation Board. "This event will be a wonderful way to share a great time while raising funds to help aid the much-needed services provided by DDI."

All proceeds from the event will benefit adults and children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Founded in 1961, DDI is a non-profit agency based in Smithtown that has served over 1,500 children and adults with Autism and other disabilities.

DDI has a lot in store for guests who make a generous donation of $25. Besides having a gift baskets auction, autographed sports memorabilia, raffles, free buffet and cash bar, donors can enjoy a live concert by legendary Long Island bands including Frontiers, One Step Ahead, The Michael Korb Band, The Good Envy and Soul (Dr. G's Wounded Warrior Band).

“This is a fun way to come out and coordinate with people in the community,” said Christine McCaule, organizer of Rockin’ for Autism.

Steve Alliano drummer from the band One Step Ahead and Robert Goebel from the group Dr. G's Wounded Warrior Band are honored to be donating their time and talent to benefit a great cause.

"It's wonderful what they're doing," Alliano said. "The people who are organizing the event, Jim Cronin and Christine McCaule, have a passion for it and it's difficult for people who have to live with it."

One Step Ahead and Dr. G’s Wounded Warrior Band have previously done other benefits to raise money and awareness for various events. “We feel it’s a good benefit. I know a lot of people who have kids with Autism and this really helps out the families,” said Goebel. “It’s really great to have people willing to chip in and help out for a good cause.”

Each band will perform about an hour's worth of music. Song selections will include rock 'n roll, top 40, and music from the 60's and 70's eras.

McCaule who has two children herself with Autism advised that DDI benefits greatly on the generous donations from the community. “We’re hoping to have a lot of fun and raise a lot of money to be able to provide services and achieve a lifetime of growth for children and adults,” she said.
