Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee Seeking Service Commitment Pledges

Commitments to service submitted by local residents will be recognized at Sept. 11 Seaford 9/11 Memorial candle lighting ceremony.

The Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee is seeking service commitment pledges that will be recognized at its upcoming honoring graduates who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks.

The Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee is encouraging local residents “to voluntarily perform at least one service activity during the coming year.” Sept. 11 was recognized as a National Day of Service in 2009 through the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act passed by congress and signed by President Obama.

A copy of the Commitment to Service pledge is available on the Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee website. The pledges, which are due by Sept. 7, can be mailed to 9/11 SHS Memorial Committee P.O. Box 2425 Seaford, N.Y. 11783 or emailed to lschachner@seaford911.org. All pledges will be recognized at the Sept. 11 Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee candle lighting ceremony scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Seaford High School.

The Sept. 11 candle lighting ceremony will honor the five Seaford High School graduates killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade including Tom Haskell, Tim Haskell, John Perry, Rob Sliwak and Michael Wittenstein. Refreshments will be provided inside Seaford High School following the service with coffee and tea sponsored by Starbucks.
