North Bellmore Church Helps Wantagh Reverend's 'Walk For Hunger'

Residents come out to help as Rev. Ron Garner of Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church collects food for the hungry.

Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Ron Garner, pastor of , was helped by members of in North Bellmore as he completed to collect donations for local food pantries and raise awareness about those who are going hungry.

Susan Salem, Camille Gaynor, Annie McPartlin and Jen Henning, from the , walked with Garner and help collect food for the last four miles, from the garden at St. Mark’s to the Freeport pantry. Also accompanying them was Tom Goodhue, director of Long Island Council of Churches (LICC).

The garden at St. Mark's has grown more than a ton of food for the LICC’s pantry this year.

Along the way, Garner and members of his church collected more than twice the amount of food donations that they hoped to collect. His efforts are part of a nationwide campaign this month by his denomination, the United Church of Christ.
