Since its inception in 2005, the Marcum Workplace Challenge, a 3.5 mile run held annually at , has raised nearly $150,000 for several local charities.

This year's beneficiaries from the run are The Long Island Children's Museum in East Garden City, The Children's Medical Fund of New York, and Hauppauge-based Long Island Cares, Inc. - The Harry Chapin Food Bank.

Marcum LLC has been the title sponsor of this event for six years. Garden City resident Leslie Segrete, a star of TLC’s While You Were Out and Trading Spaces, sounded the starting gun for the race. American Idol contestant Robbie Rosen of Merrick sung the national anthem.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
