Gingerbread House Competition, Holiday Food Drive This Weekend

Chocolate Duck Hosts Gingerbread House Competition

  • The Village of Farmingdale’s Downtown Events Committee and the Chocolate Duck are hosting the first ever Long Island Gingerbread House Competition on Saturday at the Chocolate Duck. 
  • Competition will feature adult and youth divisions and amateur and professional divisions. Entry Fees: Adults: $25, Youth (17 & under) $5.

Endangered Wild Dogs of the World
  • The wild dog family is among the diverse of all the carnivores. Many Americans think the gray wolf is the most endangered dog but they actually are not.  
  • Come learn about several of the most critically endangered and unique species ever found from the great continents of Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
East Meadow Kiwanis Waldbaums Holiday Food Drive
  • East Meadow Kiwanis needs your help. Last year, we delivered Thanksgiving dinners to 104 local families living under trying circumstances.  This year, that number may grow.
  • We depend on donations from East Meadow residents to supplement our fundraising activities throughout the year.  Our tables will be set up this weekend in front of Waldbaums.

Holiday Shopping Fair/Fundraiser
  • Please Join Us for Our holiday shopping fair/fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, located at 2333 Bellmore Ave.

  • All Raffle Proceeds will go to The John Thiessan Children's Foundation.
Grand Opening Tasting Party, Art Show and Ribbon Cutting at Divine Oil

  • The DiVine Olive is celebrating their grand opening with a tasting party this Weekend. All are welcome! Stop by 281 Main Street. There will be tastings, salads, cheeses and beverages to sample during the celebration 
  • Party: Friday, Nov. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Half Hollow Hills East Student Art Club Show followed by the Ribbon Cutting at 7:30 p.m.
  • The student’s artwork will be installed at the store for display. The celebration continues Saturday, Nov. 16 from 12-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 17 from from 12-5 p.m.
Merrick Jewish Center Gala to Honor Five
  • The Merrick Jewish Centre will hold its annual Gala recognizing the hard work and dedication of five of its members on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Shelter Rock Jewish Centre in Roslyn.
  • Being recognized will be Steve Davis, Blaine & Joan Land, Michael Fried and Elisa Kandel.

Dramatic Reading of the Book of Job
  • Saturday, Nov. 16  from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Temple Sinai of Massapequa is hosting a powerful program: A Dramatic Reading of the Book of Job. RSVP by emailing jobinlongisland@gmail.com.
  • The reading will feature the acclaimed film and television actors Kathryn Erbe (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Zach Grenier (The Good Wife, 24), and Harris Yulin (Scarface), followed by community panelist responses to the Book of Job by residents in our community who were affected by Superstorm Sandy, culminating in an audience discussion. 
  • This unique event is to promote healing dialogue while raising national awareness about the challenges still facing the South Shore.
Wantagh Varsity Cheerleading Fundraiser Applebees Flapjack Breakfast
  • Come help support the Wantagh Varsity Cheerleading Team as they try to fundraise for their trip to the Nationals Competition in Disney World, Orlando this February.   
  • Tickets cost $10 per person. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and a choice of beverage.

  • The Seaford High School Cheerleaders are hosting a Holiday Shopping Event.
