The Tackapausha Preserve covers 84 acres in Seaford and is filled with oak forests, ponds, streams, small mammals and bird species. The preserve was orginally acquired by Nassau County in 1938 for drainage purposes and is bordered by Merrick Road on the south and Jerusalem Avenue on the north. The preserve also operates a 3,000-square-foot museum that includes displays about the ecology of Long Island, animal exhibits, shows, and interactive activities for children. The museum is also available for birthday parties on weekends.
