Wantagh Residents Create 'Virtual Garage Sale'

New Facebook group called South Shore Sales is catching interest.

Three Wantagh residents have have created a platform through social media that allows neighbors to buy, sell or trade their household items without needing to organize a garage sale.

Sal Bruno and his wife Debby along with their friend Jodi Raiano recently formed South Shore Sales, a Facebook group designed for the communities of Wantagh, Seaford, Bellmore, Levittown and Massapequa. The group, which is described as "a virtual garage sale", has quickly caught interest with 554 members as of May 18.

“Although we all enjoy the chase of a good deal, cleaning out our garages and meeting some really nice folks, we thought why not work off the same idea and blend husbands, wives, boyfriend, and girlfriends and expand to a bigger area in the South Shore Long Island territory,” said Sal Bruno. “We started out with friends and neighbors in the Wantagh, Seaford and Bellmore area and recently expanded to our friends in Levittown and Massapequa.”

Bruno said if heavy interest continues they will expand into further areas along the South Shore.

“In no way are we trying to compete with other groups, advertise, sell or profit from this endeavor, “ he said. “Our goal is simply for everyone to have fun with some good South Shore people.”
