Wantagh Man Arrested After Setting Off Fireworks

Arson Squad detectives arrested a Wantagh man for possession of explosives after he admitted to setting off fireworks from his Park Avenue home late Saturday night.

Officers observed numerous empty fireworks containers still smoldering from recent use in the front of the home and fireworks erupting from the rear yard.

The defendant, Craig Paulich, 43, was questioned and admitted setting off the fireworks.

Arson/Bomb Squad detectives responded to the scene and obtained a search warrant for the premises. Detectives located commercial grade explosives as well as consumer grade fireworks inside the garage.

The defendant was taken into custody and the fireworks confiscated.

Paulich was charged with Illegal Storage of Explosives and Illegal Possession of Explosives.

He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
