Jones Beach Cleanup Set for Sept. 21

Organizers looking for volunteers

Long Island residents and beach lovers everywhere will have a chance to preserve Jones Beach next month.

The State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will hosting the 28th annual New York State Beach Cleanup at Jones Beach State Park.

It's part of a nationwide and international  program that has the participation of more than 100 nations.

“Millions of people visit Jones Beach each year because it is one of the best coastlines anywhere in the world," said State Sen. Charles Fuschillo, R-Merrick,   Cleanup programs like this will help ensure it stays that way.


Volunteers interested in participating in the beach clean-up should meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center, located at the West End of Jones Beach, starting at 8 am.  or call Fuschillo's office at 516-882-0630.  

The rain date will be Sept. 22.
