Father's Advice Resonates with Seaford HS Salutatorian

Stony Brook University-bound senior Frank Migliorino achieves a weighted grade point average of 102.04.

The following was submitted by Felicia Febrizio from the Seaford School District

“The amount of effort you put in is directly proportional to the outcome.”

This piece of advice from his father still resonates with Seaford High School Salutatorian Frank Migliorino today. It’s what helped him achieve a weighted grade point average of 102.04 and what leads him to Stony Brook University in the fall to study computer science. Someday he hopes to work for Google in the software or networking departments.

Taking on leadership roles, Frank was a member of National Honor Society, a peer tutor, secretary of Mathletes, co-president of Competition for Computer Club and vice president of Software for Robotics/Engineering Club. His involvement in Robotics/Engineering Club, which formed this year, proved to be one of the best experiences of his high school career.

“I never saw it coming,” Frank said. “But by the time we went to the regional competition at Hofstra University we became like a family.”

The club was just what he needed, he said, to grow socially even though his best friend Joseph Mineo kept him laughing and Valerie Insardi was there to always lend an ear.

Frank has already made his mark in computer science. Last year he developed a computer software program that tracks golf scores and computes who should be on which team in the next round. The program was sold to a legitimate golf club. His talents have also earned him a bevy of awards, including the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the Mathletes Highest Scorer Award, Mathletes Dedication Award and the Computer Science Highest Academic Performance Award, which he won four times. He was recognized for academic excellence on the Advanced Chemistry Regents and the Economics Regents, and wasawarded for his photography skills and his dedication to the 2013 Yearbook Committee.

Inspired by his parents, Frank said he is where he is now because he wanted to prove to them that he could be the best he could be. His greatest strength is solving a problem from multiple and unconventional angles, while his greatest weakness, he confesses, is overthinking a problem, which may lead to the wrong conclusion.

He encourages younger students coming up the ranks to keep up with their studies, and empathized with those who are still looking to fit in.  “It might take a while to find the right crowd,” he said, “but never give up; there are always friends waiting for you in the future.”

“The advice my father gave me rings true with friendships as well as academics,”

he said. “While I am thrilled to hold the honor of salutatorian, I recommend placing people first, as a friendship always has the capacity to help you throughout life.”
